Japanese Arita Blue and White Bowl

Japanese Arita Blue and White Bowl of shallow flaring form with a lightly lobed rim and a short foot, decorated in deep underglaze blue to the interior and exterior with a design of sages in a stylised landscape scene with bamboo and rocks, the centre of the interior with a roundel of stylised floral blooms and a border of repeating geometric design. This piece is typical of late nineteenth century wares made in Japan for export to the West and dates to the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912).
