LOT NUMBER 5
Art Deco Style Ceramic Jug with Floral Handle, probably 1930s
A ceramic jug, the concave body rising to form the spout and with a shouldered base below and a short spreading foot, the handle in the form of two flower heads with foliage, the base glazed and marked ‘Made in England’. The style of decoration here with the deep cream tone glaze and the brightly coloured applied and modelled decoration in shades of green, yellow and orange suggests Clarice Cliff but there are no markings for this and the manufacturer merely impressed the base ‘Made in England’, a mark first used after 1921 and generally indicative of a pre war date. But while hard to attribute this piece accurately reflects the decorative trends of the 1930s and would be an attractive and practical addition to a collection of ceramics from that period.Size: | Ht 23cm (max), Width 17cm (max), Base Diam 10cm |
