LOT NUMBER 28
Pair of Ceramic Figures of Swans, probably continental, C20th
A pair of ceramic figures of swans, their heads bowed and wings outstretched, decorated in brightly coloured enamels of blue, yellow and iron red with gilt highlights, the bases with a circular aperture and a stamped gilt mark depicting a bird and a globe above the words 'Fine Porcelain'. The style of these pieces closely resembles the products of the Italian firm 'Manifattura Italiana Porcellane Artistiche Fabris', established by the sculptor Luigi Fabris in 1916, which produced high quality ceramic items for much of the C20th, finally being sold by Luigi's son Augusto to the Elite Company in 1979. Indeed there are examples of a very similar swan figure, clearly marked with the Italian factory's name, which was produced by them. But the mark here cannot be identified and Continental manufacture has to be assumed, perhaps in the 1970s.Size: | Ht (max) 12cm, Width (max) 20cm |
