LOT NUMBER 20
Pair of Chinese embroidered silk Panels, signed, in later frames, C20th
An attractive pair of Chinese embroidered silk panels, typically decorated with scenes of birds, one in a stylised garden setting with flowering peony and the other with branches of pine. Each has a calligraphic inscription to the top left which probably contains the name of the artist. Embroidered panels such as these were a staple of the exports from China to the West in the twentieth century and the work here is typical of the earlier pieces, perhaps dating to the 1920s or 1930s. The frames, which imitate bamboo, are much later, as evidenced by the hardboard backing, but sympathetically chosen to complement their subjects.| Size: | Ht 31.5cm, Width 22.8cm, Depth 1.8cm |
