LOT NUMBER 21
Black forest style carved tray or offering dish, C20th
A shallow tray or offering dish, possibly beech, deeply carved with a hollowed out well, the reverse with two small holes for hanging, the centre with a medallion design of three stylised flowers on a ‘punched’ ground with a repeating chain pattern border, the rim with six stylised flower heads again on a punched ground. The style of carving here resembles closely the ‘Black Forest’ wares made in Germany in the nineteenth century which drew their inspiration from wildlife and countryside scenes but the dating here is much later, probably to the second half of the twentieth century and the country of origin is less certain but most likely continental and very possibly from Germany itself like its predecessors. With an attractive patina and colour to the wood, this would certainly make an appealing item of wall decoration for a cottage interior.| Size: | Diam 26.5cm, Ht 2.2cm |
| Weight: | 340gm |
| Date: | Second half C20th |
| Condition: | Excellent condition; two small holes at the back for hanging |
| Estimate: | £20 – 30 |
