LOT NUMBER 9
Two Chinese Fans, painting on silk, 1960s
Two fans of circular form with bamboo effect handles, the silk panels edged with stitching and delicately painted, one with a landscape scene, signed, and the other with a bird seated on a branch of flowering lotus. These fans seem to have been made in China for export in the mid twentieth century as part of the many handicrafts items which were sent to Europe for sale. Each of the scenes depicted here has an attraction of its own and both are a modest reflection of contemporary Chinese painting. It is sometimes suggested that these might be 'wedding fans' but that may be apocryphal.Size: | Diam (fan) 20 cm ; overall length 31 cm |

Date: | 20th century |
Condition: | Very good condition generally; very slight staining to the fan panels (see image 3) |
