LOT NUMBER 1
Art Deco style stoneware ceramic Vase with a variety of panel decorations on an iron red ground, the base marked ‘72’
An unusual Art Deco style vase, the flaring five sided or pentagonal body narrowing at the shoulder to a cylindrical neck and decorated with five panels depicting a boat, a raven, a geometric design, a sunset scene and a lady dancer all outlined in black and set on an iron red glaze ground, the interior with a beige mottled glaze, the base knife cut at the edge, unglazed showing the stoneware body and with an impressed mark glazed in red ‘72’. Form and style of decoration suggest a manufacturing date during the early 20th Century ‘Art Deco’ period (1920s/1930s) possibly by one of the Eastern European potteries but no similar examples have been found.Size: | Ht 37.5cm |
