LOT NUMBER 11
Murano style glass wrapped candy Paperweight, late C20th
This is a large model of a striped sweet or candy represented as being wrapped in cellophane with two end ‘twists’. Given the size (smaller models in various shapes can also be found) this example was most likely intended as a paperweight. While often termed ‘Murano’ and not impossibly made in one of the workshops there, this piece and others like it is best described as more generically ‘Italian’ and most likely dates to the late twentieth century. But ‘caveat emptor’ : there are also smaller examples of these glass wrapped sweets which are modern and made in China but the quality does not match that of the European originals.Size: | Length 19.5cm, Width (max) 8cm |
Weight: | 800gm |
Date: | Late C20th |
Condition: | Good condition, possible slight manufacturing flaw towards the end of one of the 'wrapper twists' (see image 6) |
Estimate: | £20 – 30 |
