Japanese flambé glazed studio pottery Bowl with crimped edge, signed, C20th
A Japanese studio pottery bowl of compressed globular shape with a wavy edge crimped rim glazed inside and out in mottled underglaze copper red merging into turquoise, the glaze neatly stopping at the base by the unglazed biscuit foot rim, its interior glazed in turquoise with a central biscuit roundel containing an incised two character signature. Although signed, the identity of the potter of this bowl cannot be established at this time. But there is no small amount of technique here both in the creation of the shape with its elaborate rim and the glazing effects used with the skilful merging of the two colours used. Dating is presumably to the second half of the twentieth century and this piece well complements its contemporary European counterparts.| Size: | Diam (max) 17.5cm, Ht (max) 6.5cm, Base 10cm |
| Weight: | 735gm |
| Date: | Second half C20th |
| Condition: | Various tiny chips to the top rim (see images) |
| Estimate: | £20 – 30 |
