Pair of oval dishes with handles decorated lady in crinoline dress, English mid C20th
A pair of oval ceramic dishes with openwork handles at each end, the white glaze with transfer pattern decoration of a lady wearing crinoline dress seated by a table in a garden with a thatched cottage in the background and opposite to her a spray of flowers, the reverse glazed and with raised numbers ‘754’ above a ‘V’ and a stamped mark ‘ENGLAND’ ’10-59’. While there is no maker’s mark here, this seems to have been a popular design and was made by at least four other manufacturers who did mark their pieces: Grindley, Durham, Portland Pottery and Barker Brothers. All these are dated to the 1930s which seems reasonable for this pair too : not the finest of English ceramics but with an appeal of their own.| Size: | Width (max) 26.5cm, Depth (max) 16.5cm, Ht 2.5cm, Foot 13cm x 18.5cm (max) |
| Weight: | 530gm (pair) |
