Two ceramic Clown Figures by Lino Zampiva, Italian late C20th
These are two ceramic figurines designed Lino Zampiva. Each depicts a clown figure, the larger holding balloons and the smaller playing the violin, both with a distinctive ‘spaghetti’ hairstyle. They are amusingly modelled and colourfully decorated and each carries Zampiva’s signature, the balloon seller with ‘Made in Italy’ in addition. Lino Zampiva founded PastelCeramica SnC in Montebello, Vicentino, Italy, in 1976 and began the production of these whimsical ceramic figurines which enjoyed great popularity. Many of them were clown figures but there were other subjects as well including dolls. Considerable artistry was expended in the creation of these pieces making them a little more than just ‘kitsch’.| Size: | (i) Clown with Balloons : Ht 11cm, Width (max) 7cm, Depth (max) 6.5cm (ii) Clown with Violin Ht 9cm, Width (max) 7cm, Depth (max) 7cm |
