Two complementary opaline glass vases decorated birds, probably French C20th
Two complementary glass vases, one of ovoid and one of baluster form, each with the white ground colourfully decorated with near identical scenes of birds and flowers. The white ground glass seen here is termed opaline and while its production has its origins in Murano, Italy, where it was first produced in the sixteenth century, its main period of production was in France in the nineteenth century, one of the most famous places of manufacture being at Baccarat. The style here, while more ‘modern’ in appearance also suggests French manufacture but at a rather later date, perhaps to the late twentieth century with the decoration possibly being machine printed rather than hand painted. But there is still a modest attraction here and these two vases are rather more affordable than their older counterparts!| Size: | Ovoid Vase : Ht 35cm, Width (max) 14cm Baluster Vase : Ht 36cm, Width (max) 14cm, Base 10cm |
| Weight: | 2.2kg (both) |
| Date: | Late C20th |
| Condition: | Good condition, no issues. |
