LOT NUMBER 1
Pink pressed glass dressing table set, Libochoviche, Czech, 1950s
A five piece dressing table or trinket set made from press moulded pink glass and comprising a tray, a pair of candlesticks, a covered pot and a ring stand, all elaborately modelled with repeating ball borders. The designs for this set can be found in a pattern book for the Libochovice glassworks in Czecholslovakia which apparently dates to some time before 1958. The tray is pattern number 3020 and the other pieces have numbers between 3021 and 3024, there being two numbers for the covered pot which was made in different sizes. The Libochoviche factory was founded in 1912 by H. Feigl and J. Moráve and after an initial period of producing mainly utilitarian pieces turned to the creation of innovative decorative items, mostly in pressed glass for which it had perfected the techniques and in combination with professional artists of the day, maintaining a highly popular output of designs until its closure in 2006. In 1945 it became part of the Sklo Union cooperative along with other manufactures of pressed glass such as Rosice and Hermanova Hut whose work can be seen elsewhere on this site.Size: | Tray is 33 x 22 cm |
