LOT NUMBER 23
French Art Deco black beaded clutch with lacquer plaques, 1920s
This is an unusual clutch bag, each side with densely packed micro bead threads, the front edged with four black celluloid plaques on each side with abstract floral designs and the top with gilt metal edging and secured by CLASP closure, also with abstract designs in black celluloid. The interior is lined in blue fabric with pockets on each side, one of which has a label ‘MADE IN FRANCE’. The fine canvas of the body can be seen at the back of some of the applied plaques (see images 3 and 6). Black beaded bags in a variety of shapes were made in France in the 1920s but it is rare to find an example with the addition of plaques such as we have here. The bead work is extremely fine and in exceptionally good condition making this a desirable addition to a collection of fashion accessories from the period.Size: | 19 x 12 cm |
Weight: | 115 grams |
Date: | 1920s |
Condition: | Very good condition, minor bead loss around the clasp of the bag. Interior is clean. |
