LOT NUMBER 8
Ceramic Wall Plate, Keramika MIS Vbnj-Banja, Hungary, second half C20th
A stoutly potted stoneware wall plate decorated with a starburst design in tones of cream, green, grisaille and brown on a blue lustre ground, the reverse showing the glazed brown earthenware with an impressed oval mark to the centre reading ‘Keramika MIS Vbnj-Banja’ (some of the lettering indistinct) and two holes pierced into the foot rim for hanging. This and various other plates with similar designs were made in Hungary, probably in the 1960s or 1970s. While all feature variations on a starburst design, this plate is one of the most successful and would make an attractive item for wall decoration.| Size: | Diam 8.5cm, Ht 2.2cm, Base 10cm |
| Weight: | 350gm |
| Date: | Second half C20th |
| Condition: | Good condition generally, tiny chip to the foot rim (see image 5) |
| Estimate: | £20 – 30 |
