LOT NUMBER 31
Old Tupton Ware jug with tubular floral design, Crown mark, early C21st
An attractive jug of broad near globular form with a short straight neck, the pointed spout opposite a simple loop handle, decorated in brightly coloured glazes with overlapping fruit, the designs picked out with tubular lines, the base with a black printed crown mark. While the work here resembles pieces by Moorcroft it is, in fact, of much more recent manufacture being an example of ‘Old Tupton Ware’, a firm founded by two partners in 2001 based in mid Wales and producing individual handmade pieces characterised by outlining in fine tubular clay. All their pieces carry a crown mark as a symbol of the brand’s ‘commitment to quality and authenticity’. Their current range can be seen on their website (www.oldtuptonware.com) but this does not include jugs of this shape indicating that they must have been amongst their earliest productions and that this particular range has now been discontinued. Not quite a collector’s item yet, perhaps, but a very attractive example of this particular pottery’s individual style.| Size: | Ht (max) 8cm, Width (max) 19cm, Depth (max) 14.5cm, Top diam 19.5cm, Base 10cm |
| Weight: | 1.145kg |
