LOT NUMBER 12
Pair of reticulated edge floral decorated Dishes, Schumann Bavaria, Germany 1920s
A pair of porcelain dishes of oval form with reticulated or openwork borders and handles to each end, delicately decorated with polychrome floral sprays and the edges gilt, the reverse with a blue printed mark ‘BAVARIA’ above a heraldic shield with a lion and ‘SCHUMANN’ below. This factory was founded in 1881 by Christian Heinrich Schumann and a businessman Franz Ferdinand Riess. Named ‘Porzellanfabrik Schumann & Riess’ it was located in Arzberg, Bavaria, Germany. Christian Schumann died in 1884 and the firm was then run by three further generations of the Schumann family until it was sold in 1990 after which production ceased four years later. The format of the mark here indicates a dating between 1918 and 1929. The quality of both the porcelain and its decoration speaks for itself and Schumann’s productions were more than a match for those of its more famous contemporary competitors.| Size: | Width (max) 17cm, Depth (max) 11cm, Ht (max) 3.5cm, Base (max) 10cm x 6.5cm |
