Indian Carved Wood Tobacco Jar with Jungle Scene, mid C20th
A carved wood tobacco jar of cylindrical form with a domed screw top cover and cone shape finial, the whole deeply and intricately modelled with bands of stylised foliage and milling with milled effect borders, the central section deeply carved and in a contrasting colour with a wildlife scene of elephants, tigers and gazelles. The work is Indian and the piece probably dates to the 1950s when tobacco was still in fashion.
