LOT NUMBER 10
Engraved Glass Dish, Angelica, by Michael Yates, Country Ladies Series, 1981
This is a fine quality glass plate, heavily formed from Morgantown lead crystal glass, and hand engraved to the reverse with an image of a lady in Art Deco style featured behind an engraved image of a tree to the front. On the reverse is an engraved inscription which reads 'First Issue Of Yates Country Ladies Hand Engraved In Genuine Morgantown Full Lead Crystal . Limited Edition 1981 Bradex Number 89.1.158-1.1 . Plate Number 406 C Of Angelica An Original Work By Michael Yates'. On the front is the engraved signature of the artist himself. This was the first of a series of four plates created by the glass engraver Michael Yates to be sold by the American firm ‘Bradford Exchange’ who specialise in limited edition collectibles. The full set comprises Angelica (as here), Violet, Heather, Laurel and was produced between 1981 and 1989. Originally each plate was issued in a box with a hanging device and full documentation. Perhaps ‘Angelica’, with a slightly simpler design, is the most appealing of all and certainly she can stand as ‘one off’ display item of extremely high craftsmanship.Size: | Diam 22.8cm |
