LOT NUMBER 12
Green Murano Millefiori Latticino Glass Bowl, 1960s
A green glass bowl, thickly walled, of globular form with a wide rim and a flat base, decorated with trailing ribbons of opaque white glass and multicoloured flowers. The general effect here points to Murano work and this piece employs two techniques familiar from the workshops there. The opaque white glass ribbons are referred to as ‘latticino’ (milk derived) and found in many Venetian pieces. Even more frequently seen are the dense multicoloured flowers (elsewhere on the site can be found some paperweights also employing the technique) known as ‘millefioiri’ (thousand flowers). The combination of the two on a green ground presents a striking and decorative item which can be enjoyed in its own right or used for the display of flowers.Size: | Ht 17.5cm, Diam (max) 21cm, Top opening 16cm, Base 6.5cm |
