LOT NUMBER 27
Set of Japanese Plates decorated with Geisha in landscape scenes, late C20th
A set of four plates colourfully decorated with Geisha in a contrasting variety of landscape scenes, two in the countryside with ladies in attendance and two in a pavilion terrace setting, one with a male attendant and the other with a courtier whose intentions look less honourable. All have red seal marks with calligraphy in addition and possibly we are to see the four seasons here which may be indicated in the texts. While the work is detailed it is not hand done but seems to have been produced by some form of printing process. The ‘micro dot’ detail of this can be seen in some of the images, for example (4) and (5). A very modest taste of Japan then but not without its attraction. Please note that the stands are for display purposes only.
