Blue Art Glass Vase of slender geometric form, possibly Blenko, late C20th
A Blue Art Glass Vase of slender geometric form, the flattened ovoid body with a central opening above a spreading foot with a narrow cylindrical neck. The style reflects the abstract designs of sculptors such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth and may be contemporary with some of their works. With no markings and no obvious direct parallels it is difficult to assign an attribution but similar pieces were made by the Blenko Glass Company, located in Milton, West Virginia, a family-owned glass factory specializing in hand-blown sheet glass, architectural glass, and tableware. The firm dates back to 1893, when founder William J. Blenko began making coloured plate glass for use in stained glass windows and it continues production today. Many of its pieces employ abstract designs similar to that of this vase and in a very similar colour. The quality is similar and can incorporate the use of enclosed 'bubbles' as seen here.Size: | Ht 23cm x Width12cm (max) x 3.5cm (base diam) |
