Aesthetic Movement silver Locket on a silver chain, c1880
This is an amazing locket that is a perfect example of the Aesthetic Movement in Britian. This was aligned with Arts and Crafts but Aesthetic Movement pieces featured classical and Japanese motifs that were considered more opulent and elegant than the exuberant designs of the Victorian period and were a response to the mass consumerism that was taking over Britain during this time. The locket is marked with full English marks for Birmingham 1887 with the maker's name 'FB?' partially obscured and is paired with a silver belcher chain of a similar age.| Size: | Locket : 44mm x 32.5mm without the bale, Necklace : 50 cm long |
| Weight: | 25.7 grams |
| Date: | c1880 |
| Condition: | Very good condition, no issues. |
| Estimate: | £100 – 150 |
