LOT NUMBER 18
Chinese Blue and White Powder Box and Cover decorated Lotus, mid C20th
A powder box and cover of squat circular form, the lid decorated in underglaze blue with flowering lotus, the base similarly decorated with a lotus spray. Shallow circular boxes, presumably to hold powder, were produced by Chinese potters from the C18th onwards. The paste of this piece indicates C20th dating here probably post war and in the late Republican period (1912-1949). These boxes were mainly made for the domestic market and would have been fairly modest acquisitions at the time.Size: | 9.2cm x 3.8cm |
