Kensington Church Street, London W8 a hand coloured etching, signed GK 1937 in a contemporary frame
This is a delightful hand coloured etching of a section of Kensington Church Street, London W8 created in the 1930s. The view is taken from the corner of Kensington Place and looks over to the shops on the other side of the road. The buildings are much the same as they are today and the firm of 'M. E. Crick' still occupies the same premises that we see here. The etching is signed 'GK 1937' and was presumably done by a local artist. The frame itself was made at another shop in the street and is stamped at the back 'KENSINGTON ART FRAMERS, 131, CHURCH STREET, KENSINGTON WEST'.Size: | 22.5cm x 19.6cm (Frame, 21.5cm x 18.7cm (Mount), 12.3cm x 9.5cm (Etching) |
Weight: | na |
Date: | 1937 |
Condition: | The etching itself is in very good condition. It is impressed into the card mount and the edges of this are slightly foxed and worn in places. Frame and glass are good but the brown paper sealing at the back is detached.and the pieces are loose. |
