LOT NUMBER 1
Art Deco style Amber Glass Rocket Vase, probably Czech Rosice 1930s
An Amber Glass Vase of fluted form, the slender body flaring from the base to form a wide shaped rim and supported by three modelled feet resembling rocket fins. The style of this vase is obvious and it seems to have been made during the period whose ethos it matches. The manufacturing technique is that of pressed glass in which molten glass was pressed into a mould with a plunger and many factories were producing similar pieces from the 1920s to the 1940s. These rocket form vases are generally held to be Czech and made during the 1930s. They resemble pieces made by the 'Rosice' factory which started production in 1920 and continued under various owners, with occasional periods of closure, until 1996. A 'heyday' period was under the proprietorship of Vaclav Hrdina from 1928 to 1931 and Hrdina was known to have promoted the manufacture of pressed glass pieces of which this design is likely to have been one. The colour is excellent and the quality of work perhaps superior to some of the pieces being made in England at that time.Size: | Ht 20.2cm Width (max) 13cm |
