LOT NUMBER 19
Egyptian Revival Perfume Bottle and Cover, probably Czech second half C20th
A perfume bottle with a screw top cover, the flattened oval glass body encased in gilt filigree work, the front with a portrait head of Tutankhamun between two falcons representing the Goddess Ra and the reverse with an oval opening revealing the interior of the bottle and the glass wand attached to the cover which is in gilt metal with a screw fitting matching the top of the bottle. The style here is obviously that of the ‘Egyptian Revival’ which became ever more fashionable after the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb by the Earl of Carnarvon and Harold Carter in 1922. Glass bottles encased in gilt filigree work are a hallmark of the Czech glassworks and while most incorporate European elements into the decoration there are other examples which are Egyptian Revival in style and so this is most likely what we have here. Dating is probably to the 1970s.Size: | 60mm x 37.6mm x 27.5mm |
