Certain features of the buildings in this picture, with its stilt houses, and the landscape generally indicate that it is a scene from Thailand that we see here and this is confirmed by the picture’s price which is written on the back ‘200 BAHT’, the currency of the country. The artist has signed his work ‘S.Niponti’ but nothing is discoverable about him. His work though is pleasing and combines a fair degree of realism with an element of the abstract. Dating is most likely to the end of the twentieth century which is consistent with the frame itself.
