Oil Painting on board, Mountain Rapids, signed, C20th

A landscape scene with fast flowing water rapids enclosed on each side by mountainous outcrops with trees. The current seems to be heading downwards to the bottom right possibly about to break into a waterfall. The location cannot be identified but is probably European or just possibly American. The style of the painting is clearly impressionistic and the artist has signed his work but illegibly, unfortunately. A mid twentieth century dating seems the most likely and this is consistent with the typeface used by the picture framer ‘S. Staples’ (who were located at 103, High Street, Croydon, England) which has a distinctively Art Deco look to it and can be found on other pictures from this period.
