LOT NUMBER 1
Pair of Chinese Cantonese Famille Rose Plates decorated in a mille fleur design, 19th Century
A Pair of unusual Chinese Famille Rose small plates decorated in Famille Rose enamels with overlapping chrysanthemum heads on a gilt ground in a version of the well known 'mille fleur' pattern, the designs slightly differing on each dish, the reverse with a celadon ground and a stylised seal mark in underglaze blue to the foot. Thickly potted celadon ground dishes decorated with birds and flowers were produced quite frequently during the mid nineteenth century and usually formed part of a tea service. The variation on this decoration here is unusual and highly decorative.Size: | Diam 17cm and 17.3cm |
