Art Deco Catalin Bakelite necklace c1930
This is a fabulous necklace comprising very large catalin beads. Catalin is a form of plastic that is comtemporary with Bakelite. They are very similar as they are both composed of phenol and formeldehyde. The main difference is that Catalin was poured a poured liquid and Bakelite was moulded from a granular powder. Catalin is a brand name developed and trademarked in 1927 by the American Catalin Corporation of New York City, when the patent on Bakelite expired that year.Size: | 80 cm long, Large bead 42 x 17 mm, Large round bead 24 mm |
