A Maprik Yam Stick, New Guinea, Wosera region
The elongated V-Shaped blade carved at the back with incised geometric motives, the finial in the shape of a torso with diminutive arms set under an enlarged head with a beard, v-shaped mouth, elongated pierced nose, flared pierced ears, all set under a high smooth forehead; remains of yellow pigments, fine aged reddish patina.
These charms are planted in Yam fields to help their growth and protect them from diseases and natural predators.
