A Rare Solomon Island Paddle, Oceania
The lanceolate blade issuing a tubular shaft ending with a crescent supporting two busts with bent arms joining at the front and a typical head with enlarge jaw and high smooth coiffure; incised geometric motives on the crescent part of the handle, fine aged dark brown patina.
Paddles of the Solomon Islands are usually not decorated with figures. These bust figures are mostly found as canoe prow decorations.So Far this is the only recorded exemple of a paddle decorated with canoe prow figures.
