LOT NUMBER 15
Pair of Miniature Staffordshire Dogs, C20th
A pair of ceramic dogs in a typical crouching pose, their faces turned outwards, both decorated in blue, black and gilt, the fur impressionistically represented, the glaze with a slight craquelure and the bases unmarked with circular openings. The design here is typical of the ‘Staffordshire Dogs’ produced in such great quantity in the nineteenth century and the paste of the foot suggests that these too are from the same source but probably later; the gilding in particular suggests early to mid C20th work. The miniature size adds rather to their charm.Size: | 9cm x 7cm x 5 cm each |
