LOT NUMBER 6
Porcelain Cabinet Plate, probably English Worcester, second half C19th
A fine quality polychrome porcelain plate with a modelled gadroon edge, the centre decorated with a spray of flowers within a turquoise and gilt beadwork border, the rim painted in light salmon pink edged with white beading and a gilt millwork band within the gadroon border, also finished in turquoise and gilt, the reverse plain and with a feint impressed mark. While the quality of the decoration here is obvious, the identity of the manufacturer is less certain. There are many resemblances to Minton pieces but the mark, inasmuch as it can be made out, does not correspond with this. However similar pieces were made by the Royal Worcester factory in the second half of the nineteenth century and with a very similar and indistinct impressed mark, suggesting that this is probably what we have here. Definitely an attractive addition to the boudoir!Size: | 24 cm diameter |
