Amber and enamel necklace by Helga Exner, signed, Denmark c1990
This is a very striking necklace created by Helga Exner the Czech/Danish artist and jewellery designer. It displays a group of birds with different shades of blue enamel set in silver flying around a large butterscotch amber stone. It is a true necklace with the original silver chain held in place on each side of the pendant and is signed on the reverse twice with the designer's initials 'HEX' with the mark '925C.' for silver. The chain clasp is also marked '925'.Helga Exner née Menzel (born 1939) is a Czech-born Danish goldsmith who is recognized as one of Denmark's most significant contemporary jewellery designers. From the age of 16, she was trained by Herbert Seufert in Bad Godesberg, Germany, where she met her future husband, the Danish goldsmith Bent Exner. After they married in 1961, the couple established a workshop near Randers, working together until 1983 when they separated. Since then she has produced jewellery in her own studio, holding a number of solo exhibitions in the late 1980s and 1990s.
