Starfish centrepiece Bowl in the Murano style with millefiori decoration, second half C20th
SALERROM NOTICE : PLEASE NOTE THE REVISED CATALOGUING FOR THIS LOTA centrepiece bowl of shallow form, the irregular rim with eight projections, four with ‘hooks’ and moulded geometric pattern panels and four slightly projecting, the base with an irregular ovoid foot, unpolished, the glass cream coloured with a clear border and decorated with small roundels in the millefiori design. The general style of this bowl resembles Murano pieces and other examples in the same shape but without the ‘millefiori’ decoration can carry a label reading ‘Murano Glassware’ ‘Crystal Clear’ ‘Made in Italy’ but these appear to be made by a firm based in Naples, the Antonio Tammaro Group, which describes its products as ‘Murano Glass made in Campania, southern Italy’. Even so, the workmanship here is typically skilful and the cream ground is effectively enlivened by the ‘millefiori’ highlights. Dating is probably to the 1960s or 1970s.
