Renaissance style brass Desk Set in case, late C19th/early C20th
A brass desk set comprising a pair of candlesticks, an ink pot on stand, a pen holder and a paperknife all elaborately cast with floral motifs. Unusually complete and with a fitted box, this desk set belongs to a large group of pieces made in England during the late Victorian era where the style of decoration loosely looks back to renaissance metalware with its heavy, elaborate and often classically inspired decoration. The manufacturer here, as often, is unknown but was clearly capable of producing high quality work. Not all the items to be found here might be in regular use today but the ensemble would certainly be an appropriate gift for the ‘executive who has everything’!Size
