LOT NUMBER 10
Poole Pottery Gemstones Vase, late C20th
A ceramic vase of flattened ovoid form, decorated with abstract designs in multicoloured glazes, the interior glazed XXXX and the base glazed in tomato red with the white glaze mark ‘Poole England’ and a script signature possibly reading ‘GF’. This vase is a good example of the ‘gemstones’ pattern produced by Poole Pottery in the 1980s but continued thereafter. Abstract slabs of coloured decoration in various shades are combined with a mottled ground in orange, red and grisaille. The shape is generally termed torpedo and was made in a variety of designs and colourings. The glaze effects here are particularly pleasing and well complement the simplicity of the shape.Size: | H 26 cm, W 16 cm, D 10 cm |
