LOT NUMBER 9
Transfer decorated small footed bowl, probably French C19th
A small bowl of typical form with curved sides supported by a spreading foot, the interior and exterior with colourful transfer decoration in the Chinoiserie style with flowers, miniature pavilions and a stylised garden scene. The form here with its spreading foot is uncommon and is rarely found in pieces of English manufacture but occurs more commonly in those made in France, some with the mark for the firm Creil Montereau, prolific manufacturers of transfer decorated faience in the nineteenth century. The paste and finish of the foot also looks more European than English suggesting a French maker here which has produced an attractive interpretation of the Chinoiserie style, so popular in its time.Size: | 9 cm H 17 cm Diameter |
