LOT NUMBER 7
Art Deco Style brown lustre glaze triangular form Vase, signed, C20th
There are few, if any, parallels for this unusual vase. Triangular in form it is covered in a brown lustre glaze with raised diagonal ‘slashes’ on the two front faces joined by a raised horizontal band at the reverse, both the body and the raised bands with incised abstract decoration, the reverse seemingly with the sun or moon above waves which continue round to the front. The base is unglazed with clear traces of fine fabric webbing which would have been used to assist in the firing of the piece and has a blue monogram mark ‘MC’. The interior is glazed green, again with traces of fabric webbing. The angular form suggests Art Deco but the other elements of the decoration seem rather later and certainly post war. This vase is probably European and possibly German but remains something of an enigma which does not detract, though, from its stylish design.Size: | 19.5 x 9.5 cm |
