LOT NUMBER 20
Art Deco style beaker form Vase, probably Beswick, mid C20th
A beaker form vase with a slightly flaring rim and a spreading base, the body with modelled ribbing and panels, decorated in green, yellow and pink with trees, the leaves continuing to the top interior, the ridged base glazed dark beige and the foot cream with printed and impressed marks including ‘Beswi Ware’ (the ‘B’ is slightly worn) and ‘Made in England’. The manufacturer’s mark is identical to those commonly found on the well known Beswick wares from the 1930s and the form and decoration have resemblances as well but, for some reason (a manufacturing error?) the full name does not occur here and the final two letters ‘ck’ are missing. Despite that, there can be little doubt that this vase, probably intended for flowers, was from the Beswick range and certainly it is very much typical of pieces made generally during the 1930s and a modest reflection of the then popular Art Deco style.Size: | Ht 17cm, Width (max) 9.5cm, Base 9.5cm |
