LOT NUMBER 28
Pair of Green Glazed Bottle Vases, possibly French C20th
A pair of ceramic bottle vases, the bodies of compressed conical form above tapering stepped bases below narrow cylindrical necks, glazed overall in green with a craquelure effect, the colour lightening at the top and to the inside rim, the bases with feint and illegible marks, seemingly a shield shape with a cipher inside. There are no discoverable parallels for either the vases themselves or the marks underneath and provenance and dating are a matter of guesswork. The paste of the foot, though, is continental rather than British and the elegant Art Deco inspired form suggests French work from the 1930s. Whoever the creator, the result is striking with a clear contemporary appeal.Size: | Ht 30.5cm, Width (max) 17cm, Base 9cm |
