LOT NUMBER 5
Murano blue glass star shape Bowl, 1960s
A small deep bowl of shaped square form with pointed edges and incurving sides, the blue glass combined with clear glass in a technique known as ‘sommerso’ (Italian ‘submerged’) whereby two or more layers of contrasting glass are created without the colours mixing together. Sommerso pieces are formed by dipping coloured glass into molten glass of a different colour before blowing the glass into the required form and the technique was developed by the Murano factory in Venice. The colour range here is typical of their work and other pieces can be found with similar and even identical designs. Dating is probably to the 1960s and the flowing organic form is charcteristic of pieces from that time.Size: | 7 cm high, 17 cm wide |
