Opaline Art Glass Vase with a marbled design, Vetreria Barbieri, 1970s/1980s
An art glass vase of mallet form with a narrow flaring neck, the opaline glass body with a marbled design in shades of yellow and brown. Many pieces in this style are found with paper labels reading 'V.B. Opaline Florence, Made in Italy'. The initials VB are thought to stand for Vetreria Barbieri, a factory in or close to the town of Empoli, Italy, that produced glassware during the 1970's and early 1980's. 'Opaline Florence" refers to the type of glass used, since opaline glass, a cloudy white, was produced in Florence.
