LOT NUMBER 9
Biomorphic Form Purple glass Bowl, European possibly Czech Chribska, 1970s
A fine quality art glass glass bowl or vase with two raised sides and a third curling downwards, all in a semi naturalistic or biomorphic form, the purple body edged with a border of clear glass and darkening slightly towards the base which is flat with a faintly bevelled edge. The general design of this piece suggests a mid 20th century date of manufacture. It is not marked but resembles pieces made by the Chribska glassworks in Czechoslovakia quite closely. The Chribska glassworks was founded in 1414 and was known as the oldest glassworks in Europe, until its closure in 2007. One of its best known designers was Josef Hospodka who produced many organic, sculptural blown glass designs, which proved very popular in the 1960s and remained in production until the factory closed in 2007.Size: | 17 x 17 cm |
