LOT NUMBER 6
Wave shape glass Vase, probably Murano, second half C20th
This is a dramatically modelled vase representing a cresting wave, the variegated blue glass with minute bubbles imitating water and blending into clear glass imitating the foam atop. It stands on an irregularly circular base, similarly finished. There are similar wave shape glass sculptures made by British artists such as Alison Vincent or David Wight but this piece resembles more closely the marine inspired designs made at Murano, Italy, in the later part of the twentieth century, some of which are attributed to Cristiano Toso. The maker here must remain anonymous but has created a dynamic piece which successfully recreates the sense of an ocean swell.| Size: | Ht (max) 14cm, Width (max) 11cm, Base 10cm |
| Weight: | 1.265kg |
| Date: | Second half C20th |
| Condition: | Good condition generally, very slight grit adhesion to the underside of the wave (see image 7) |
| Estimate: | £80 – 120 |
