LOT NUMBER 17
Cylindrical bark glass Vase, probably Ravenhead Glass, second half C20th
A cylindrical glass vase of an irregular profile, the surface heavily textured to resemble tree bark and the base countersunk. There are various candidates for the manufacturer of this vase which can resemble pieces from Iittala, Finland or Whitefriars of England (see the following lot) but the consensus is that this particular form of ‘bark vase’ was made by Ravenhead Glass, a glassworks near Ravenhead Colliery, Lancashire, founded in 1850, which went on to produce substantial quantities of glass supplied to the catering trade during the twentieth century both for the home market and abroad until it went into administration in 2001. Vases like these formed part of the Ravenglass range and were probably produced during the 1970s.| Size: | Ht (max) 21cm, Width (max) 8.5cm, Depth (max) 8cm, Base (irregular/max) 8cm x 7.5cm |
| Weight: | 1.03kg |
| Date: | 1970s |
| Condition: | Good condition, no issues. |
| Estimate: | £20 – 30 |
