Glass dish in the form of a Swan, Alum Bay Glass, Isle of Wight, with label, late C20th

A clear glass trinket dish in the form of a Swan, with upraised wings and the head bent forwards from the elegantly slender curved neck, the interior hollowed out and the base with a clear plastic label reading ‘Alum Bay Glass’ ‘Handmade on the Isle of Wight’.

Founded in 1972, Alum Bay Glass is one of the longest established glassworks on the Isle of Wight and is still trading today with a shop in ‘The Needles’ complex. While swan figurines are currently available in its online store, there does not seem to be an exact match in the current catalogue and the format of the label, in any case, suggests a slightly earlier dating, probably to the later years of the twentieth century.
