Glass figure of a Hare, Langham Glass, with label, late C20th
A glass figure of a hare, modelled crouching with its head looking expectantly forwards, the fur in mottled tones of mustard and brown, the front legs in clear streaked mustard, the ears similar with dark brown at the tips, the eyes and tail in black with the tail also finished in white, the base hollowed out at the centre.Langham Glass was founded in 1979 by the glassmaker Paul Miller (see image 9) in the village of Langham, in Rutland, England. Paul Miller had previously worked at Wedgwood Glass where he designed a range of popular animals and paperweights. Production of these continued at his new business along with other designs. In 2005, the factory was moved to Tattersett Business Park, near Fakenham and again in 2013 to a more central area of Fakenham, where it still operates today, presenting demonstration classes in glass making.
Hare figurines can be seen in the current Langham Glass catalogue, but the format is rather different and this example, with what is probably an older format of label, is most likely earlier, dating to the late twentieth century. The modelling and colourings are particularly pleasing making this a desirable acquisition for the collector or general buyer alike.
